THE COMMUNITY OF BELOVED DISCIPLES
MARCH 19, 2015
"TRUST IN GOD'S LOVE"
1 John 4, 5
LESSON TEXT: 1 John 4:13-21; 1 John 5:1-5
THOUGHT TO REMEMBER:
Perfect love will cast out fear... Love others as you love God.
Heavenly Father, we confess that our sin and our tendency to sin cause us to fear. Grant us strength to lay our fears aside as we come to You in loving trust. We can never match Your love, but may we strive nevertheless to love You with all of our hearts, souls, minds, and strength.
We pray this in the name of Your Holy Son, Jesus, Amen.
The Christian faith is a system of trust, and today’s lesson shows us several aspects of the nature of this trust. Many public figures in the news have betrayed the public’s trust in one way or another and we are shown too often whom we can trust and whom we cannot trust. Whether they exhibit dishonesty, pride, or sloth, our heroes often have feet of clay. Where can we place our trust and never have to worry? We can always place our complete trust in our Savior, Jesus Christ because we can have confidence that leads to fearless and victorious living.
God gives His Spirit not only to dwell in our hearts but also to make it possible that we dwell in the heart of the Father.
As followers of Jesus, we obey His commandment when we show our love for others. We cannot just talk about loving others. We must show our love in the things that we do. Our actions (deeds) show our love for others. By our actions of love, we show that we are followers of Christ and help spread the good news about Jesus to the world!
It is difficult if not impossible to imagine God being afraid of anything, and there was nothing held back in His plan to redeem sinful and rebellious humanity. God sent His Son, His only Son, His beloved Son, into the enemy camp to die in order to save us from certain death, eternal death. It is this God-like, fearless love that we are called to in today’s lesson.
Thoughts to consider:
To begin with, God's desire is to live in us. He is not satisfied simply to tell us that He loves us, or even show us that He loves us. (1 John 4:13-16)
Perfect love will cast out fear. (1 John 4:17, 18)
Love others as you love God. (1 John 4:19-21).

"Have you decided to trust Jesus as your personal Savior?" Do you wish to have a personal relationship with the One who created you and loves you no matter what? Well, yes, today you can ask Jesus to come into your heart. Just tell Him in your own words, or use this simple prayer:
Dear Heavenly and Eternal Father,
Creator of the entire universe, You have revealed Your will to us through Your Holy Scriptures. In them we may learn Your rules for serving You.
O God, may You continue to be our strength as we seek daily to live according to Your will. We pray this in the name of the one who kept Your law perfectly.
In the name of Jesus,
